Mackay and District Spinal Injuries Association
Mackay and District Spinal Injuries Association (MDSIA) is a local organisation that has been providing services for 40 years in the region. The organisation specialises in providing services to adults with a spinal cord injury or physical disability, including:
- Cerebral Palsy
- Limb Fracture
- Motor Neuron
- Multiple Sclerosis
- Muscular Dystrophy
- Musculoskeletal Injuries
- Spina Bifida
MDSIA's history goes back to February 1978 when a number of people came together as a type of social club for people with spinal injuries. Their conversations lead to the idea of trying to build a complex for the young with severe disability. The name suggested for the complex was Para-villa.
Today, MDSIA continues to provide services to individuals at Para-villa, and in private homes and in the community. The organisation services the region as far north as Midge Point, South to LLibibie and West to Eungella.
Individuals who access MDSIA services are free and independent to control all aspects of their lives, make their own choices and decisions, and determine their own outcomes. MDSIA provides assistance to facilitate these life choices.
